Ed-tech company WhiteHat Jr recently announced that it will be partnering with Dettol BSI to offer 50 scholarships to participants with the best ideas for mobile phone apps that address health and hygiene concerns.

WhiteHat Jr Aims to Give Back to Students In India

WhiteHat Jr will partner with Reckitt, a health hygiene and nutrition company under the Dettol BSI umbrella, to fund a scholarship for innovative mobile apps. Children ages six to eighteen can participate in the digital scholarship program. The winning app will address social interactions, improve health and hygiene with contactless delivery, or other concepts that reduce contact with contaminated surfaces.

The scholarship intends to raise awareness about the importance of sanitation in the community. By involving young aspiring minds, scholarship sponsors hope to get children involved in the awareness campaign. Specifically, scholarship contenders will work on hygiene-related issues from a technological viewpoint, says Karan Bajaj.

How the Scholarship Will Work

The top 50 students will receive a scholarship of INR 50,000. Students must submit their ideas between April 12 and May 13 of 2021. WhiteHat Jr will then assign mentors to the top 200 submissions. Students and mentors will work to solidify concepts, and the judges will narrow the participants to the top 50 submissions.

Karan Bajaj says that the scholarship is just the latest effort by his company to get children interested in technology coding. He believes that teaching kids how to deal with science and technology at an early age helps them approach real-world tech problems when they grow up.

“Children are naturally creative and empathetic, and since they aren’t predisposed to an existing concept or bound by the constraints of what’s doable, the solutions end up being genuinely innovative. This initiative is a real-life manifestation of the mission of WhiteHat Jr to make children creators rather than being consumers of technology,” according to CEO and Founder of WhiteHat Jr Company, Karan Bajaj.
