Mavic Mini Review: The Perfect Starter Drone

DJI-Mavic-Mini-D1

DJI has been making drones for quite a while now and some of them have better cameras or longer battery life.

The story is pretty much always the same except with this DJI’s new drone the DJI Mavic mini. The best feature of this amazing drone is the extremely small size and lightweight.

This drone can literally fit into your pocket and it weighs only 249g. The drone is powered by a newly designed 3 axis 2.7K 12MP camera.

A 30-minute flight time allows you to capture all the important moments. It can withstand winds of around ~19-28 km/h.

Mavic mini comes with a battery and micro SD card installed meaning you don’t have to worry about any of that you can just start flying it as soon as you take it out of the box.

The Mavic mini shoots at 2.7 K at 25 or 30 FPS or you can drop down to 1080p to double the frame rate. It would be nice if it shot in native 4k video but the footage still upscales nicely.

The Mavic mini folds down to be super compact and you can easily carry it with you while traveling to your favorite destinations.

The controller for the Mavic mini is small too and it uses your phone as a display with building clamps and a USB connector. The thumbsticks twist off and tuck into their own little compartments so you don’t lose them.

There’s also a built-in speaker that makes it easy to know when you’ve turned the controller on or off and the shoulder buttons let you switch between photo and video modes.

DJI has made another new app for the Mavic mini which helps to control more complicated actions that can’t be handled on the controller.

With the help of the app, you can use various quick shot modes and you can pull up a map that shows you exactly where it’s okay to fly the Mavic mini.

DJI also offers the fly more combo kit which costs an extra hundred dollars but you should definitely consider it the kit comes with two extra batteries and a three battery charging hub. This would normally run you about 130 altogether and you get a great quality carrying case for everything you also get spare propellers and a big plastic guard which are nice inclusions.

Filming with the Mavic mini the image is softer than DJI is more expensive drones of course but it’s still more than good enough to use in vlogs.

Mavic mini without a doubt is one of the best drones available out there for the beginners.
